The Meissner 50L FlexGro® is a single-use, rocker-style (wave) biocontainer assembly designed for upstream cell culture processes. It is widely used in biopharmaceutical process development, seed train expansion, and small-scale clinical production (such as monoclonal antibodies and vaccine manufacturing).
    • Nominal Volume: 50 Liters
    • Working Volume Range: 5 L to 25 L (The working volume maxes out at 50% of the nominal bag volume to allow sufficient headspace for aeration and wave dynamics).
    • Temperature Range: Qualified for use from 0 °C to 50 °C.
    • Sterility: Supplied sterile via gamma irradiation (Sterility Assurance Level of 10-6 validated per ISO 11137).
    • FlexGro® biocontainers are fabricated using Meissner’s signature high-purity, multi-layer single-use films:
    • TepoFlex® (PE): A polyethylene-based multi-layer film that features an exceptionally low extractables/leachables profile. It is formulated completely devoid of slip agents, mitigating risks of cellular growth inhibition or toxicity in sensitive cell lines (e.g., CHO, HEK293, MDCK, Vero).
    • FluoroFlex® (PVDF): A fluoropolymer-based option for specialized processes requiring specific chemical resistance or gas barrier performance.
    • Hardware Compatibility: Cytiva (formerly GE Healthcare) WAVE Bioreactor 20/50 System (utilizing the Kit 50 tray/holder configuration).
    • Working Volume Dynamics: Lower fluid volumes (near 10 L) are more susceptible to air pulling than higher volumes (25 L).
    • Rocking Rate & Angle Constraints: At high rocking rates and wider angles (e.g., above 30 rpm at an 8° angle or greater), inertial forces push the bulk of the wave completely past the centerline dip tube, exposing it to the air headspace.
    • Turbulence: Higher rocking rates create localized turbulent fluid mixing near the dip tube inlet, creating microbubbles even when the fluid level seems sufficient.
